Pulp Heros

Airfix HaT Tarzan.

Edgar Rice Burroughs lived in Los Angeles, and he wrote Tarzan.

African from Eagle Games.  Shield in the colors of Tanzania.

In several of the Tarzan books he travels with and lives with members of the fictional Waziri tribe.

Little girl from the Imex Pioneers set.  She is playing with a metal hoop.

I use her to help wrangle the horses.

This action hero is actually two different figures.

The upper body is a horse mounted cowboy and the lower body is also from the Revell Cowboys set.

Cowboys and Colonials

Esci British Colonial Infantry, updated with a Thompson submachine gun.

And an American back pack.

This was a cowboy, but with a pith helmet instead of a cowboy hat, he looks much more modern.

Of course, a Thompson SMG and ammo pouches make him much more pulp.

Cowboy, had to do this guy, Hollywood is part of the Old West, California is a western as you can get!

.45 ACP revolvers, Thompson and Grease Guns give the team ammo compatibility for the most part.

Dogs and Monkeys

Hollywood has a long history of dog acts.

Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, Astra, Petey, Toto and many other real and animated dogs.

The Labrador Retriever is from Matchbox, and this one is from Imex.

Even a old dog can be a watchdog and be a good friend.

Trained chimpanzees also made lots of appearances in movies.

These are from Preiser and I have not yet painted the bases.  Might make a nice pack for a Tarzan picture.

Dog Days

An expedition will do well to take a pack of dogs with them.

These are from the Davy Crockett set by Atlantic.

These big yellow dogs are from the Revell Conquistador set.  Dogs are helpful when hunting.

They also can hear and smell approaching people and wildlife.

Watchdogs might come in handy in a strange world.

Dogs are also wonderful companions and good company.

Derringers and Dinosaurs

Members of the ships crew make up part of the landing party.

With a head swap and repaint this Revell USMC looks like a civilian sailor on landing duty.

This time with a Grease Gun and a new hat!

These men has small boat and raft skills, so if we have to cross a river, or swamp, they will be useful.

Originally an Alamo Defender from IMEX, now a member of ships crew.

Firing off both barrels on his Derringer.

Map Makers and Cowgirl

This Atlantic cowgirl has a nice Golden Boy Henry lever action carbine.

And a six gun with the same caliber bullets in her holster.

Part of the mission is the document the island, so bringing survey equipment is a must to make good maps.

Like the cowgirl, this figure has been given a pith helmet, but he also got a field pack.

A few of these figures are gaming pieces from Eagle Games.

A new field pack and this man is the other half of the survey and map making team.

Lost World

In the original King Kong, Charlie the Cook was a heroic character in his own right, always ready to grab his meat cleaver and chop is way through a host of dinosaurs.

Of course, this Charlie has his own Chopper!  Boxer Rebellion figure with some added firepower.

Those Revell Marines got a few head swaps, and repaints and added packs and became pretty good ships crew.

Here outfitted as a landing party.

Just a quick head swap and this guy looks a lot more nautical!

That Grease Gun is also a handy accessory.

Voyage to the Lost World

My voyage to the lost world team was supposed to represent an expedition from Hollywood, I selected figures that would likely appear in movies of the period.  That way they could not only film the monsters they expected to find, but also create footage to use in major motion pictures.  Here is an Indian.

Updated to include a WWII era US Army canteen.  This expedition was to take place in 1946 or 1947 and so the figures had to express that in some way when possible.

The other Indian figure, this time with a rifle.  What's so unusual about that?

Look carefully and you will recognize the rifle is not a Winchester, but rather an M-1 Garand!  I did a bit of conversion work from a WWII Revell USMC figure.

Cowboy figure.  Lasso that T-Rex.  Shades of Valley of Gwangi.

A man who is good with a lasso can be very handy and many of those old cowboy actors had been real cowboys.
